How to Build a Penn State E Portfolio

The following instructions will aid Penn State students in the building of their own ePortfolio. This is written specifically for Penn State students although it may be used for students of other universities or professionals. They can get ideas or the general procedure how to build an eportfolio using Microsoft FrontPage. ePortfolios provide the creator with an easy way to display their accomplishments to apply for jobs or colleges. Building one also helps users learn the process of making a web page using Microsoft FrontPage. And possibly most importantly, an ePortfolio helps the user organize their thoughts and goals.

Map your Webspace to your home computer. Note: You can use www.portal.psu.edu to upload/download your pages, too. It is easier to map the webspace though, because you can just save it into the directory.

Open the VPN software.

Double click on “ISP to PSU”. You will be asked for your PSU username and password.

Open “My Computer” from the “Start” Menu on the “My Computer” menu bar, go to “Tools” and select “Map Network Drive”

Under the “Folder: ”drop box, input the following address \\samba.cac.psu.edu\homes. Make sure to use back slashes, not forward slashes.

  • You must have permission for all copyrighted pictures

  • Internet access
  • Web space account(to host the eportfolio)
  • access to VPN client
  • Collected information and organize it
  • Microsoft FrontPage access
  • if pictures the user want to use but is copyrighted, contact the owner for permission.
  • If user plans on to have reference section, make sure u conacted the people on the list that they agree to it
  • work environment: computer lab and take certains hours depending how details you want your eportfolio to be
