Sep 25, 2010 04:12 PM

Out of the millions of people who use internet across various countries, almost everyone must have used Google to search one or the other thing. Google is undoubtedly an indispensable searching means for many people. But the question is that whether people know how to make efficient searches on Google? Do people really get the desired results when they punch in the search criteria? “Yes, everyone knows it” is definitely not the answer. Here are some tips on how to make your Google search more effective:

Use quotes (e.g. “search query”) to search for pages containing exactly that phrase that you want.

  • You can use ~ symbol for searching similar terms to a word.
  • A symbol can be used if you do not know exactly what you want to search but just a part of it.
  • Google also offers advanced search features wherein you can fill up the exact validations that you require in your search.
  • If you are looking for some definitions, use the word define or meaning followed by the search query to get desired results.
  • You can also search something specific in one website by typing site:(site name) search query.
  • If you want to search something between two periods you can use two dots symbol. (e.g. search query 2000..2010).
  • The search query is always dependent upon what you want to search exactly. Even if you feel that you have mastered the art of searching and you get the desired output easily and time effectively, there is always a scope of improvement in the same.
